Murphys Old Timers Museum
Utilizing our rich local history to inspire new generations of creators and leaders, we support and encourage innovative projects highlighting Calaveras history.
In 2023 the Murphys Old Timers Museum, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, provided the seed money for the Albert Michelson Exhibit at the Angels Camp Museum. It was this innovative partnership that sparked our new mission.

The Gold Rush
Murphys, known as the Queen of the Sierra, was once home to thousands of prospectors from across the globe. It was one of the richest gold discoveries in California. Today it is a tourist destination attracting visitors as it once did gold seekers.
The Grape Expectation
Wine has been a part of our history since European miners brought clippings from their personal vines. Today, Murphys is known as a wine town, with more than 25 tasting rooms on Main Street alone. Vineyards stretch across the county.
